While fan attendance during the recent college basketball championships has been limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that hasn’t put a damper on school spirit. We at Six Star decided to check in with a group of athletes who specialize in just that — whether it be pumping up a crowd, stunting with a mascot, or flipping during time outs.
We’re talking about the cheerleaders. We asked a group of co-eds from schools in Florida, California and Texas what they enjoyed most about performing, their college towns and archrivals. Here’s a sampling of what they had to say.
On College Towns …
“The best part about my college town (Lubbock, Texas) is how family oriented it feels! There are so many traditions that happen and have been passed down over the years that make games and campus events so much fun. I love being able to go anywhere in town and be with Tech fans. It makes being away from my actual home that much easier.” – Shannon (Texas)
“The best part about my college town (Tallahassee) is the atmosphere and the school spirit. Both are electric, especially on game day.” – Julia (Florida)
On Rivals …
“Our school’s biggest rival is Southern California. Every season we play them for the Victory Bell and if we win, we get to bring it back to campus and paint it blue. We also happened to go further in the tournament than they did this year, which is an added bonus.” – Sammi (California)
On Performing In Front Of Crowds …
“Cheering in front of packed crowds is one of my all-time favorite things to do. The energy in the stadium is always electric and one of my favorite parts about it is getting everyone involved in showing support for our school.” – Hayley (California) x
“The energy performing in front of a big crowd is speechless. It has my adrenaline pumping constantly and makes me perform that much better. I absolutely love the passion and love that it takes for you to step out onto the floor in front of thousands of people and the confidence that is takes.
Knowing there’s that many people rooting for you makes going out on the floor even more intimidating, but once you step out there, your body goes into autopilot and you don’t really notice what is going on besides executing each skill to the best of your ability.” – Shannon (Texas)
“My favorite part about performing in front of a packed crowd is seeing people’s reactions when we do skills. It’s fun being in the air, close to the crowd, seeing little girls in the audience getting excited. I really love how it inspires people.” – Emily (Florida)
While one would think all of this school spirit is simply part of the job, most cheerleaders need a boost every so often. All of the cheerleaders interviewed are users of Six Star Pre-Workout Explosion and Six Star 100% Whey Protein Plus, available at a retailer near you and on SixStarPro.com.
