GREATNESS IS EARNED

Journey

Tobin Powell Heath is professional soccer player with a truly incredible resume of achievements. With multiple medals and world titles under her belt, Tobin is considered by many to be the USA’s most skilled female soccer player. She currently dominates the positions of attacking or flank midfielder for her club team, the Portland Thorns FC.

Born in Morristown, New Jersey, Tobin grew up as a middle child with a younger brother and two older sisters. Tobin started playing soccer at the early age of 4 in the back of a YMCA. Continuing to develop her skills, she played for Ridge High School, where she was a four-year letter winner and a three-time Parade All-American in soccer, graduating in 2006. When she graduated, Tobin was ranked as the No. 2 recruit in the nation in the Class of 2006 by Soccer Buzz magazine and won numerous awards, such as the Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year and the Newark Star-Ledger‘s New Jersey Player of the Year awards.

Tobin’s next move took her to the University of North Carolina (UNC), where she would go on to major in Communications. She was a consensus freshman All-America on UNC’s 2006 national championship team and started 22 of the 23 games she played for the Tar Heels. As a sophomore, Tobin was named to the First-Team NSCAA All-American and First-Team All-ACC. In her junior year, she scored eight goals with eight assists, helping the Tar Heels to a 25–1–2 record and the NCAA title. In Tobin’s final year, she helped her team dominate again with a season record of 23–3–1 and another NCAA championship.

Although she had already gained some experience with international competition as a youth, Tobin made her first appearance for the senior national women’s team on January 18, 2008, at the Four Nations Tournament. During the 2008 Summer Olympics, she earned three caps during the tournament, where her team went on to win the Gold Medal, all while being the youngest member on the squad at just 20 years old. Tobin was named the 2009 U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year but did not play for the USA in 2010 as she recovered from illness and a major ankle surgery. In 2011 her team fell just short of winning the FIFA World Cup; however, in 2012 Tobin secured her second Olympic Gold medal at the London Olympics. In 2015, Tobin was a regular starter for team USA, where she was one of three U.S. women to score a goal in the final to win the FIFA World Cup championship.

Tobin Heath

Outside of international competition, Tobin has played for a variety of professional soccer teams. In 2010, she was the first overall pick in the Women’s Professional Soccer 2010 college draft and was selected by the Atlanta Beat. She would go on to play for several other American professional teams before making the jump to European soccer, moving to France for two years to play with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). After completing her contract with PSG, Tobin signed with the Portland Thorns FC in the newly established National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), where she helped the team win the championship with a stunning, game-winning free-kick goal in 2013. Tobin has continued to shine for the Thorns through the 2016 season, securing Player of the Month, Player of the Week and Goal of the Week honors. She was also recognized on a national level and honored with the 2016 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year award.

When she’s not making plays and scoring goals at the highest of level of the most popular sport on the planet, Tobin partakes in other sports such as tennis and surfing, while also spending time in the great outdoors whenever possible. As one of the best female soccer players in the world today, Tobin Heath continues to capture the hearts of fans everywhere with her skillful play and down-to-earth personality. Now a member of Team Six Star®, Tobin seeks to continue adding to her already impressive athletic resume while inspiring young athletes around the world to follow their passion and never give up on their dreams.
